Scouting for Food - a letter from Scout Exec Matt Budz

posted Nov 7, 2013, 2:23 PM by Scout Marlboro
Greetings Scouters,

Hope this note finds you well and in good spirit.

I want to say thanks to all Scouts, Scout Leaders, and our volunteers for all of their time and energy in supporting one of the largest foods drives in Eastern Massachusetts.

I had the pleasure of visiting collection sites with our Knox Trail Council President Paul Sliney and Scouting for Food Chairman Ed Behn this past Saturday. All I can say is "Unbelievable!!!"  We started the morning in Northborough at the town hall and our travels took us to Hudson, Marlborough, Southborough, Hopkinton, Ashland, and Wellesley.

Throughout our trip and at every stop we witnessed true community spirit, people coming together to help others in need, "kids helping kids".  If you don't think Scouting makes a difference, we do - just ask any of the food pantry directors.  On average, this project alone makes up for over 40% to 50% of their food collection for the entire year.  In most cases, the Scouting for Food service project will enable the pantries to distribute food for the next 4-6 months to needy families in the Metro West area.

I want to thank all of our collection site coordinators for their time and talent.  Without your support this project could not be possible.  I also want to thank Ed Behn who served as this year's Chairman for Scouting for Food, your leadership and support is truly appreciated.

Finally to our unit leaders, scouts, and all of the parents ....... thanks for pounding the pavement and making it happen, your support of this program continues to be outstanding and we appreciate all that you do for Scouting.

Today is a great day for Scouting; collectively we have done our part to make our communities stronger. We were able to teach our scouts an important life lesson about community service and helping those in need........ We continue to change lives.

See you on the trail,

Matt
